Hello! We're the University of Liverpool's Anime Society, dedicated to showing some of the best, most recent anime releases from Japan, with English subtitles, in a great social environment, for everyone who's interested! We also run a great variety of other events, including cultural workshops (such as cosplay and how-to-draw manga style), days out (ice-skating, cinema trips, BBQs in the summer), bar socials, J-pop discos, and the annual charity all-nighter.

Unsure exactly what anime is? No problem! Anime is simply the term used to refer to animation originating from Japan- though with the onset of other countries starting to create animated works drawn in the Japanese style, there are naturally some areas of dispute within the fan community as to where the line between "anime" and "cartoon" should be drawn! For more information, I recommend the wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anime

Our society has been running for over five years now, and currently has over a hundred members. It was founded by the great Kev, who lead the society for three years and clinched the Best New Society award. Kev handed leadership over to Becca and her Fangirl Faction officers, who introduced the idea of voting for the regular shows, and they in turn entrusted the running of the society to our current president, Izzy, who will be running the society for a second year once September rolls around. Needless to say, the craziness shall continue...

Our screenings are held every Friday in the Guild's International Lounge, starting at 7:00pm and finishing at around 10:30pm- check the forum and the news section here for the latest information. The screenings are run on the format of having four regular series, which we show one or two episodes of each per week, and one "showcase slot", where we show the first episode of a series recommended either by or to one of the committee members. After screenings we have the traditional visit to the Augustus John pub around the corner. Come and join the fun, and get to know a great bunch of people!

And new for the 2007-2008 academic year, we also have both the International Lounge and the Training Room booked every Monday for the same time.
In the International Lounge we will be running Pic'n'Mix screenings- films, OVAs (that's anime mini-series, usually around 6 episodes long), additonal episodes of popular showcases, and suchlike- none of the Friday regulars will be shown on a Monday, so don't worry if you can't attend both screenings every week! We also intend the Monday screenings to all be "stand alone", with nothing started one week and continued over subsequent weeks. This screening is aimed at those who find Friday an inconvenient day for attending screenings, who want to see more films or OVAs, or who just want more anime in their week!
In the Training Room will be the cultural workshops mentioned above in the first paragraph. The details are still being worked out, but the Cosplay workshops will definitely be making a return, and we'll be taking a survey at the start of the new academic year to determine interest in other possibilities, including the return of manga-drawing workshops!

Membership for the society costs just £2, and screenings cost 50p per week- so that's for either the Friday screening, or the Monday screening, or both. We also offer Screening Passes for £5 that cover an entire term at a discount, and will also be valid for both Monday and Friday screenings!

We screen a wide variety of anime series - here are some of the ones we have shown in the past:

Chrno Crusade
Cromartie High School
Full Metal Panic
Yakitake! Japan
Kyou Kara Maou
Genshiken
Full Metal Alchemist
Jungle Guu
Eureka 7
GunXSword
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
