► Sound Impact Awards

The Sound* Impact Awards is an environmental accreditation scheme run by NUS Services Limited in partnership with NUS, People & Planet, the Environmental Association for Universities and Colleges, Higher Education Environmental Performance Improvement and The Ecologist that aims to encourage, nurture, reward and celebrate environmental best practice in students' unions.

Students unions have long been at the forefront of environmental campaigning. Last year, Liverpool Guild of Students received a Sound* Impact Bronze Award after meeting all essential criteria in reducing its impact on the environment.

This year, we are working towards the Silver Award, which means achieving an overall improvement in

  • monitoring waste dispopsal;
  • reducing refuse;
  • recycling;
  • reducing energy use;
  • monitoring transport use; and
  • raising awareness amongst students, staff and the local community.

In the meantime, we encourage students and staff to use the recycling bins in our building on Mount Pleasant for

  • plastic;
  • cardboard;
  • paper;
  • glass;
  • cans;
  • printer cartridges;
  • clothing; and
  • shoes.

We can also help you dispose of computers and mobile phones in a way that reduces their impact on the environment.

LATEST UPDATE
LGoS is to be audited for its Silver Award on 30 January.

Death of the plastic bag
Billions of plastic bags are in existence across the globe, taking decades to break down. In an effort to reduce this number LGoS is now selling reusable bags in its shops.
