Vetting & Barring Scheme

Vetting & Barring Scheme

The Vetting & Barring scheme is a change in the current CRB system.

• Aim: to help prevent unsuitable people from working with children and vulnerable adults
• Employers and volunteer organisations who deal with regulated activity i.e. any activity which involves contact with children or vulnerable adults, paid or voluntary work, always need to check a person’s ISA status before employing them or allowing them to volunteer.
• Only an ISA-registered person can undertake regulated activity
• It will be an offence for any barred person to work in regulated activities, and for any employer to employ someone he knows to be barred, either paid or voluntary and can result in imprisonment of our trustees or a fine of up to £5000. It is our responsibility to check a volunteer’s status.
• This applies to some of our activity groups who are involved in volunteering with children or vulnerable adults.
• If you think that this applies to your activity group or aren’t completely sure, please contact Becky Turner on rturner@liverpool.ac.uk or 0151 795 0387.
