Green Fingers

University Children's Centre Garden Plot

Are you interested in conservation and environmental volunteering? Are you looking for experience in working with young children to add to your CV? LGoS offers you the opportunity to volunteer on the University of Liverpool's Children's Centre garden plot. Located right in the heart of campus, you won't have to walk far to reach the project. You will be involved in helping to expand this existing growing space. As the site is located in the centre of their play area, the children are able to see what is being grown throughout the year. The produce from the growing space is used within the children’s lunches, giving their meals food metres rather than miles! The project is in it's early stages and therefore this is a really exciting time for you to get involved.

This project is partly being funded through the NUS Fresher Fresher's initiative. Through this initiative, Homebase has provided LGoS with funding towards resources for the garden including plants, seeds, pots, planters, tools and compost.

New equipment including fencing, a wormery, seeds, pots, cold frames and a composter have all been purchased to develop the plot. You can be involved in expanding the site and working with the team at the centre to educate the children on horticulture and the environment.

Whether you want to learn horticultural skills, experience working with young children, are passionate about the environment or just want to meet new people, this project is ideal for you. If you are interested in volunteering on this project please contact Kim Cooper on kcooper@liv.ac.uk
